Darfur is a region that is about the size of France that is located in western Sudan. The citizens rebelled when the Sudan called a redress on social and economic grievances. The government saw this as a threat to the country and initiated an extermination of the tribal people in Darfur. A large militia called the Janjaweed would go out and kill people of all ages. To date over 400,000 people have been killed. The Sudanese government denies any involvement in the genocide, but they are known to close communications and send the air force and bomb villages before the militia can get there. As of March 13, 2009 the ICC issued an arrest warrant for the Sudanese President.
